It is a well know fact that Dubai holds numerous world records, from the tallest building in the world to the largest indoor aquarium in the world. But there are several official world records which have either already been broken in the city, or will surface in 2019.
Read on to find out more.
Dubai holds another world record for the world’s largest puzzle. The record was created by The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), claiming a new Guinness World Records title for the largest jigsaw puzzle by surface area. In celebration of the Year of Zayed, the 12,000-piece puzzle features the image of Shaikh Zayed, the UAE’s founding father. The puzzle is so big, spanning an area of 6,000 square metres, that it can be visible from a distance.
It can be found within the Uptown Dubai district of DMCC, master developer of Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) and the government authority on commodities trade and enterprise. Formerly called the Burj 2020 District, Uptown Dubai is a real estate development consisting of more than 10 million square feet of commercial and residential space. The project was earlier envisioned to create 10,000 news jobs in Dubai.
Meydan One by Meydan, a Dubai-based developer, will be a mega development, with a gross floor area of 5,500,000 square metres that will create six new world records. The project will include 711-metre Dubai One Tower, the world’s tallest residential tower; world’s highest restaurant at 675 metres; the world’s longest indoor ski slope at 1.2 kilometres; the world’s largest indoor gymnasium at 25,000 square metres; the world’s highest 360° observation deck at 655 metres and the world’s largest dancing fountain at 420 metres in length.
Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, developer of Jumeirah Lakes Towers, will for the first time unveil the details of the Burj 2020 district – home to Burj 2020 tower, billed to be the world’s tallest commercial tower.
The company has got Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (AS+GG) to design the tower, while WATG, a destination creation consultancy, is working on the master plan of the district. Construction is expected to begin this year with plans to complete the tower before 2020.
Dubai is the host city for Expo 2020, which will run from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021.
The Burj 2020 is an approved 660 metres (2,170ft) megatall skyscraper to be built in Dubai.
First announced by developer Dubai Multi Commodities Centre at CityScape Global in September 2015, it has been designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture.
Twin tower in Dubai Creek
Emaar Properties, Dubai’s largest developer, will showcase the tallest twin towers in the world in their Dubai Creek Harbour at The Lagoons. When completed, they will surpass the 1,483-feet Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Dubai Creek Tower is an observation tower under construction located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, at a preliminary cost of AED 3.67 billion (US$1 billion) and is expected to be completed in 2020. The tower was initially known as The Tower at Dubai Creek Harbour. The engineering company working on the project stated that Dubai’s new tallest tower will emit a ‘beacon of light’ from its peak at night. At the top will be an oval-shaped bud, housing ten observation decks, including The Pinnacle Room, which will offer 360-degree views of the city, according to a statement from engineering firm Aurecon, which will work with Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava on the project. The design includes a distinctive net of steel cable stays that attach to a central reinforced concrete core that will reach into the skies.
Dubai Eye by Meraas Holdings is the world’s largest ferris wheel, located on the Dh6-billion Bluewaters Island. The 210-metre Dubai Eye will offer views of the emirate’s coastline and landmarks such as Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeirah and Burj Khalifa. Located on the Bluewaters Island complex in Dubai Marina. the Dubai Eye stands at 210m high (689 ft), overtaking the new High Roller in Las Vegas which stands at 167.6m (550 ft), making it the tallest Ferris wheel in the world. The Dubai Eye will include 48 luxury capsules capable of holding 1,400 visitors. In addition, a large 80m LED screen will be mounted on the wheel creating an electronic platform for broadcasting, advertisements, and other information. The rest of Bluewaters Island will feature a boutique five star hotel, varied residential options, a souq, alfresco dining outlets and a mix of retail stores.
Dubai Square, the new mega shopping destination that was announced earlier this year will offer 8.07 million sq ft of gross floor retail space, will have nearly double the gross leasable area of Dubai Mall. Spread across three levels, Dubai Square will feature the Middle East’s largest Chinatown, an events arena, luxury retail, dining and leisure outlets, as well as a cineplex, a waterpark, and an Art District.
The mall will also promote ‘omnichannel retailing’ and offer facilities such as personalized AI recommendations, 3D printed clothing and quick checkout solutions.
Dubai Square will also be linked directly to the Dubai Creek Tower – set to become Dubai’s tallest tower – through an underground extension. It will be unequalled in the world in terms of digitization and the type of experiences that customers will be able to enjoy in many ways.
